Crashing Waves

8×10 oil on canvas, Buskin Beach, Kodiak, AK

This painting is part of the cloud series I began last year. While the clouds in this particular painting are not the dominant feature, my goal is to paint a large variety of clouds and wispy distant clouds are still clouds. The main goal of this series is to improve my previously mediocre ability to paint clouds. You can’t have awesome clouds with boring foregrounds though so I’m finding that I’ve had to figure out how to paint everything that could possibly be in a landscape. This painting also represents my first attempt at crashing waves. I feel like I did an acceptable job, but will certainly keep practicing.
