This week has been hectic and I haven’t had time to paint. I was more productive last week though and got this painting started. I need to glaze some red/orange in the clouds and add a bit more detail in the foreground, then it’ll probably be done.
This painting will be number 18 in my small cloud collection and I have 19 and 20 started. That means I’m getting really close to completing a long-term goal of 20 small paintings. It has taken me over a year to get this far, but I’m really pleased with the results. I have grown artistically and have a nice collection of paintings to show for it. I’ve been thinking of various goals and new collections to pursue once this collection in done, but I haven’t decided on anything.
When I decided I wanted to be a better artist at the beginning of 2015, I realized that part of being a better artist was having a body of work. It had been so many years since I had last painted that my body of work no longer reflected me so I decided to start from scratch. I wanted a coherent collection of paintings so I chose one subject (a somewhat broad subject it turned out). I wasn’t sure exactly where my painting abilities were, so I decided to paint small 8x10s until I felt comfortable enough to go big.
Are you an artist? Do you set goals?
