Here we are, just over half way through the challenge. While I’m still struggling to some degree, I think I’m finally getting the hang of painting flowers. I have to keep reminding myself to slow down and not rush through it, but overall I think I’ve improved.
This week feels slightly less horrible than the previous week. I didn’t want to talk about it then and still don’t, but I’ve been dealing with another blow to my private life. Life certainly isn’t all doom and gloom though. I’m taking action to infuse positivity into my life. I’ve been walking my dogs every morning, taking more time caring for my houseplants, and of course painting every day. It’s all small stuff, but it’s all things I enjoy and can see immediate positive results in.
I mentioned a while ago that I adopted a 7 month old German Shorthaired Pointer. His name is Hunter and he is now just about 9 months old. He really is the perfect dog for my family. He fit in immediately and I can’t for the life of me figure out why his previous owner gave him up. Typically you can pinpoint a specific behavior, but I’m not seeing it. Hunter is super mellow, good with other animals, easy to train, and very affectionate. I’m grateful that he came into my life, but I just don’t see why anyone would give up such a good dog.
Pigeon, my Brittany, is also doing well. She is just about 6 months old now. She is going through a phase of getting into everything and not really listening, but we’re working on it. I think she is just in her rebellious teen pup phase and she’ll start to calm down a little in the next couple of months. She is an absolute sweetheart and I’m so glad to have her.
My houseplants aren’t really something I talk about, but I really do enjoy them. Two years ago when we moved into our current house, I finally had decent enough lighting to keep plants alive and have since collected quite a few. A quick count has me at 40 pots, several of which contain multiple plants. I honestly hadn’t realized that I had so many.
My favorite plants are my sansevieria, zamioculas zamiifolia aka zz, fiddle leaf fig, monstera deliciosa, and orchids. Most of my plants have been suffering from some moderate neglect these last few months. Most seem to be bouncing back relatively quickly now that they’re getting watered, but some have lasting damage. Plants like my shamrock that obviously asked for water did just fine, but others that were more subtle about asking didn’t fair as well.
Remember to follow me on Instagram @amber.honour to see these paintings as I finish them. See you all next week! 🙂
