Not much in the way of painting happened this week. After the super busy week I had last week, this week has been a recovery week. I finished up this semi abstract painting on black paper and it turned out way better than I thought it would. It is also the largest gouache painting I’ve done so far at 9×12 inches.
I’m not going to lie. I absolutely love the gold background. I was struggling to fill the space with something interesting. Whatever it was, it had to be bright because of the backlit subject. I tried to incorporate geometric shapes into the foreground also, but it ended up looking too busy. Luckily, gouache reactivates like a dream and I was able to scrub away most of the shapes.
The commission above has been a bit of a struggle for me. I actually washed the paper off before taking this picture because I hated how it was turning out. I will definitely continue to work on this throughout the next week so I can deliver it to my client in a timely manner. The stresses of the previous week have definitely taken their toll.
Finally, this little painting is the first painting in my newest sketchbook. Obviously it isn’t finished, but I expect it to be cute once it is.
Next week marks the start of the fall whirlwind with the start of school. Birthdays, holidays and school functions will be piling up on each other in what can only be described as busy family life. I will continue to try to keep up with painting so stay tuned.
