It has been a while since I’ve done a work in progress post, but here we are. This little kitty was sister to my Kiki, but unfortunately disappeared shortly after we acquired her. I did manage to get a few good pictures before she vanished though. The painting has been a little on the difficult side so far. I haven’t been painting as often as I should, and I feel like it is starting to show. I tried to paint this a bit more loosely than it is at this point, but since I’m out of practice I’m not getting things right on the first try. I know this will eventually come together and will look nice. It will just be a more polished painting than the looser paintings I’ve been doing lately.
The reason for my lack of painting and distraction is the daunting challenge of buying a house. Fortunately, I’m in the home stretch. My husband and I put an offer on a house a few weeks ago and things are moving along pretty quickly. It is scheduled to close in a couple of weeks so I’ve started to go through stuff and pack. My art room seems like one of the easiest rooms to pack up because I don’t “have” to paint, although it feels weird to go too long without it. Then there will be the whole moving and unpacking situation, so don’t be surprised if posting gets a little erratic here and there. I will certainly try to keep up on it.
One excellent thing to come out of packing up my art room is finding a good way to store paintings. I bought a roll of foam sheets a while back to put between the small panels I painted in January, and it occurred to me that it would be perfect for wrapping canvases for storage/moving. I put two paintings (backs together/faces out) together and wrapped them up like a present with the foam sheets. Then I put them in plastic storage tubs so they would have a little more protection. I think it’ll do a great job of protecting the faces as well as the sides of the paintings from damage. I stood the paintings up on their sides so as little weight as possible was put on the face of each painting which will hopefully prevent any dents in the canvas.
