Painting has been a wonderful escape this week. It has given me something to focus on other than overwhelming feelings of anxiety and sadness. The losses suffered this year are not something that can be easily overcome. This events of this year have certainly left a lasting mark.
Painting still brings me joy however so I will continue. I’ve been racking my brain to try to figure out what I want to paint this January for the Strada 31 Day Challenge and I’m not feeling particularly inspired. I’ve thought of doing food again because it’s an abundant subject, but I did food last year. I considered random objects in my house, but I did that a couple years ago and I’m not sure if I have enough interesting objects. Finally, I’m considering painting flowers. I have a bunch of fake flowers and I’m sure I could buy a bouquet or two, but I’m still relatively intimidated by flowers for some reason.
If you have any subject suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Ideally, I would like suggestions of subjects I could do as a collection. The only requirement is that the subject needs to be painted from life.
As for the paintings this week, I’m really happy with how all of them turned out. The one above is especially nice because it is Pigeon, my new puppy a few days after I got her. I was hoping her eyes would stay the green color that they were, but they have since changed to a pretty honey-gold.
The giraffe gave me a run for my money. It was looking very muddy until I started including some really bright colors and I really love how it came out. Despite the magenta highlights, it still manages to look pretty believable.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season!
Nice work …and you are totally ready for flowers! Easy to get fresh ones to paint from life and by the time you’ve done a full months worth, you will have mastered them.
Sorry your year has been so tough and wishing you a much better 2020.
Thank you. I probably will do flowers. It’ll be nice to have so many fresh ones around the house for a month. 🙂
