It was hard to stay on track this week, but I managed to somehow not miss a day. Not all of the paintings are my best work, but I’m posting everything, good or bad. It is easy to always put your best work on display. It is more difficult to put something out that you know isn’t your best work. Sometimes I’m surprised by the reaction “bad” art gets. There have been several occasions that my “bad” art got more attention and praise than art I had slaved over and was really proud of.
The painting from Day 11 is a good example of a painting that doesn’t work getting far more attention than I think it deserves. And more attention than work I’m really proud of. For reasons I don’t understand, this painting has more likes and views on Instagram than better work.
Day 13 has to be my favorite gouache painting so far. The pose and perspective of the yak make me smile and I’ve been wanting to paint this picture for a very long time. Of course, this painting only gets the average number of likes on Instagram despite being higher quality work. It is based on a picture I took at the Olympic Game Farm in Sequim, Washington. It’s a drive through zoo where you feed the animals bread. Clearly, the animals expect to be fed and open wide for their treats which makes for silly pictures.
You are so right as to how people will sometimes like what the artist feels is not the best – can not really predict – eh?
I like 10, 11 and 16 the best here

It’s completely unpredictable! Thank you. Feedback is good motivation to keep going. 🙂
Wonderful, fun and interesting work!! Way to hang in there, it’s hard sometimes. I love how you don’t mind putting yourself out there. Talented and courageous too!
Thank you Arris. If it was easy, it wouldn’t be rewarding. 😉
