At the beginning of this week I wasn’t sure if I would have anything to post. Since completing my last painting I didn’t know what to do with myself. On one hand, I want to get back into oil painting. On the other, I wanted to just continue on with gouache painting. As sometimes happens when I can’t choose between two things, I do nothing instead.
My sister-in-law came to my rescue though. She wanted to get together and paint so we did and I am grateful for it. It kicked my butt back into gear and I completed a gouache painting that day, another the next day and so on. As of today I have 5 completed paintings to share.
I have some big news to share today too. My husband and I have been slowly putting the pieces of our lives back together after the tragedy of losing our dogs this last summer. A couple of months ago we adopted an 8 week old Brittany we named Pigeon and about two weeks ago we adopted a 7 month old German Shorthaired Pointer named Hunter.
It has been difficult because they are so similar in traits and looks to our previous dogs, but that is also something I love about them. They are their own dogs with unique personalities of course and it has been fun to get to know them.
Having two very young dogs was pretty worrisome at first. I’ve always had an older dog around to show the younger dog the ropes. I was afraid that they’d be little terrors together, but it seems to be working out pretty well so far. Hunter is the absolute perfect dog for us. He fits in so well that it feels like he has always been a part of our family.
I wasn’t even seriously looking for another dog but, when I saw him in a classified ad, I couldn’t pass him up. My husband had already said he wanted an older rescue but all of the German Shorthaired rescues I had come across so far weren’t good with cats and were therefore out of the question. Hunter barely fit the older dog mold at 7 months, but he wasn’t a little puppy either. He came to us only house trained and knowing how to sit, but great with other animals. He is picking up training very quickly and seems eager to please. Plus, his previous owner drove him 3 hours in a winter storm to my house to ensure he had a good home. I think it was truly meant to be.
