The last couple of weeks I got a little off track. I entirely forgot to write up a blog post last week, but I was… distracted. I did get a little painting in though. I completed a painting commissioned for my niece of her dog Fiona and started the painting of her cat Simba. The cat painting is pretty close to being done. It should be posted to the blog next week. I hope she likes them.
The main reason I’ve been distracted is because I got the poppy painting I painted a few weeks ago. I love how it turned out, although I’ve already gotten a comment about when I plan on getting it finished. It’s finished now. I intensionally left the stems and center of the flowers as line work because I like the simplicity of it. The first version I did had green stems, but it was just too much. Simple is pretty.
Work is starting to pick up again as the weather warms up and the tourists start to trickle in. I’m not thrilled about the tourists, but it has been nice working again. Finally, I’m starting renovations on my shed. The shed is the future home of my art studio or she-shed. So far, I’ve cleaned it out and added outlets to the existing wiring. The next step is some framing for the air conditioner, insulation, and then drywall. I need to take some pictures of it now before we get too much work into it so I can compare the before and after.
Today I realized that the submission deadline for the Canyon River Runners Art Show is this weekend and I’m not prepared. I at least finished the one painting, but I never got around to the other one I had planned. I think I’m going to paint it anyway it just won’t be in the show. I’m including a painting I did last year as my second submission. They’re both framed up and ready to be dropped off tomorrow.
If you are in Southeastern Utah and would like to attend the show, it runs from March 14 to April 4th at the John Wesley Powell River History Museum in Green River, Utah.
Speaking of art shows, I have been invited back to the community art show at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center. I am thinking of putting in a few of my Inktober paintings, but it’s so hard to choose. I only have 4 frames so the pressure is on. The Moab Community Art Show will be on April 11th at the Moab Arts and Recreation Center in Moab, Utah as part of the annual Art Walk event.
